The garden preserves the colonial urban layout typical of New Spanish cities, surrounded by the most important buildings in the history of San Miguel: to the south stands the majestic Parish of San Miguel Arcángel with its neo-Gothic towers of pink quarry, to the east and west extend the elegant portals with colonial arches, and to the north is the building of the old municipal presidency. In the center of the garden is the beautiful wrought iron kiosk, inaugurated on February 2, 1887, from where the music of mariachis, trios and traditional groups brightens up the afternoons and nights of San Miguel.
What makes the Main Garden truly special is its function as a natural forum for cultural events and concerts, where the traditional mojigangas with their various characterizations dance during the celebrations, creating a show full of color, music and joy that delights both San Miguel residents and visitors. Its characteristic wrought iron benches invite you to sit and contemplate the coming and going of urban life, while street vendors offer handicrafts, flowers and typical toys. It is a place where simply sitting and admiring the surrounding architecture under the leafy laurel trees becomes a fascinating and contemplative experience.
En el corazón absoluto de San Miguel de Allende, donde convergen siglos de historia, tradición y vida cotidiana, se encuentra el JardÃn Principal —también conocido como JardÃn Allende o Plaza Principal—, el espacio público más emblemático e icónico de la ciudad. Esta plaza central es indudablemente el corazón de San Miguel de Allende, donde cada dÃa se entrelazan las historias de locales y visitantes bajo la sombra protectora de sus majestuosos laureles que permanecen verdes durante todo el año.
El jardÃn conserva el trazo urbano colonial tÃpico de las ciudades novohispanas, rodeado por los edificios más importantes de la historia sanmiguelense: al sur se alza la majestuosa Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel con sus torres neogóticas de cantera rosa, al este y oeste se extienden los elegantes portales con arcos coloniales, y al norte se encuentra el edificio de la antigua presidencia municipal. En el centro del jardÃn se ubica el hermoso kiosco de hierro forjado, inaugurado el 2 de febrero de 1887, desde donde la música de mariachis, trÃos y grupos tradicionales alegra las tardes y noches sanmiguelenses.
Lo que hace verdaderamente especial al JardÃn Principal es su función como foro natural de eventos culturales y conciertos, donde las tradicionales mojigangas con sus diversas caracterizaciones danzan durante las celebraciones, creando un espectáculo lleno de color, música y alegrÃa que hace las delicias tanto de sanmiguelenses como de visitantes. Sus caracterÃsticas bancas de hierro forjado invitan a sentarse a contemplar el ir y venir de la vida urbana, mientras los vendedores ambulantes ofrecen artesanÃas, flores y juguetes tÃpicos. Es un lugar donde simplemente sentarse a admirar la arquitectura circundante bajo los frondosos laureles se convierte en una experiencia fascinante y contemplativa.

THE JARDIN AFTER DARK
There is always activity in the Jardin at night, especially so on the weekends. Groups of mariachis gather there and wait to be hired for a special serenade in a restaurant or bar somewhere. While they wait in the Jardin, they play. People dance. Sitting in the Jardin in the evenings is a common thing to do for some local families, much like watching TV after dinner for other people. Watching the way locals interact gives you an idea of the richness of this culture. Sometimes you see amazing things, like a child twirling flaming batons. Or special concerts or speeches or dances. All of it takes place in the light of La Parroquia and it is very special indeed.
