It’s July -which means that Playreaders recommences after a 2-month hiatus! And what a return it will be as we present a double feature on the beautiful, messy business of marriage titled:
Darling, Do You Love Me?
We kick off the evening with Paul Dooley and Winnie Holzman’s Post-Its (Notes on a Marriage), a poignant yet amusing drama tracking decades of a relationship’s highs and lows—all told through the sticky notes left around the house. (Originally premiered in 1998 to benefit the Gilda Radner Cancer Fund.) This play will be performed by seasoned San Miguel actors: Antonia Banewicz and Frank Freschet.
Next, we trade sentiment for surrealism with The Extraordinary Revelations of Orca the Goldfish. A one-act play by David Tristram. This sharp comedy follows Henry and Alice, a bored married couple whose wildly escalating daydreams begin to blur the line between reality and fantasy. It’s a hilarious look at marital escapism where only one spectator knows what’s actually real: Orca, the family goldfish. One of Playreader’s comedic favorites, Rick Franz, will play the many roles of “Henry” and the talented Antonia Banewicz will play the multiple characters of “Alice.”
Have you ever wondered if Playreaders will offer a matinee performance? Well, wonder no more. This month marks a first for Playreaders with the introduction of a 3rd show: a matinee performance on Friday the 17th at 1pm.
