Sinfonietta MIQ state tour of Guanajuato

The avant-garde project in chamber music of the Iconographic Museum of Don Quixote, for the first time, will perform in four cities of Guanajuato, in the most beautiful museums and cultural venues in the state.

The Sinfonietta of the Iconographic Museum of Don Quixote on its state tour is presented for the first time in 4 cities: Irapuato, Guanajuato, San Miguel de Allende and León from May 8 to June 4 in its first season of 2024 with music ranging from Giacomo Puccini and Darius Milhaud to Nino Rota, composer of the soundtrack of “The Godfather”, under the artistic direction of Juan Trigos, Mexican director and composer.

The MIQ Sinfonietta will perform three concerts in four different cities in the cultural venues and museums of the cities, with several world and national premieres, a musical program with works by Ricardo Zohn-Muldoon, guest composer Jaliscience, Manuel M. Ponce and Juan Trigos himself.

We will celebrate the 70th birthday of Orlando Jacinto García, Cuban American composer and we will have music by Jean Francaix, Albert Roussel, Mauricio Ravel, among others.

Made up of 25 musicians and soprano singer Daniela Dinguilo, the group seeks to disseminate the music of Mexican composers along with a repertoire that combines the classics of the nineteenth century with contemporary music. An innovative proposal due to its programming and versatility in instrumental combinations; where each concert integrates a different ensemble, guest soloists, musicians of international stature and world premieres.

As guest musicians we have Jesús Almanza, guest conductor and current director of the Camerata Santiago de Querétaro, the Santiago de Querétaro Choir and the Silvestre Revueltas Youth Symphony Orchestra.

Paul Vaillancourt, percussionist and conductor, professor at Columbus State University in Georgia, United States; and Dieter Hennings, guitarist and current professor at the University of Kentucky and curator of the UK’s International Guitar Series.

The Iconographic Museum of Don Quixote is located in the heart of the city of Guanajuato, recognized for having one of the largest collections of works of art inspired by Don Quixote de la Mancha with more than 900 pieces in its collection.

For more than a decade, his cultural and artistic vocation led him to promote chamber music by organizing more than 300 concerts and since 2020 he formed his own chamber music group, the Sinfonietta MIQ, thus being the only museum in Guanajuato that has this type of group and versatile repertoire.
