Event Category: All Events, Artistic Events, Learning/Education, and Presentations/Discussions
-
Elisabeth Mention will introduce the field of fine art conservation generally, including ethical and professional issues as illustrated through her step-by-step process of conserving one very severely damaged painting.
Elisabeth graduated in Fine Arts from the University of California Berkeley and spent 32 years as a Paintings Conservator at the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles. With visiting positions at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, The Yale University Art Museum, and the Seattle Museum of Art, her experience in restoring Old Master paintings was the foundation of her work on restoring Orazio Gentileschi’s “Mother and Child”, mutilated during the Romanian revolution.
This presentation will detail the process of bringing this masterpiece back to life.
