2nd Avenue On Celluloid: Yiddish Film Festival
Presented in honor of Frederick Edell’s memory, a retired Canadian University Professor, and Professor Emeritus of Film and Theater. The series highlights original Yiddish movies starring famous Yiddish actors portraying Jewish immigrant life during the early 20th century.The second film in the series stars Molly Picone in “Mamele,” The National Center for Jewish Film describes it thus: “1938’s Mamele, in which late pixie queen Molly Picon plays a cheerfully suffering yenta Cinderella awaiting justice for her many sacrifices to a selfish family. She cooks, she cleans, she sings — what more do you want?“
All films are in Yiddish with English subtitles.
