With the coming of the new year, three new books are being launched at the Biblioteca in the month of January. The Biblioteca is one of the premier venues for book presentations, with several rooms, and outdoor spaces available, depending on time of the year. It is one of the potential places to hold such events, aside from various hotels, restaurants, and bookstores that promote local authors. The three new books being launched are authored by writers as diverse as are the books themselves. Two authors are local, San Miguel residents, writing in English, and the third is from Texcoco, Mexico, with a publication in Spanish.

Hector Celis, is a young Mexican author whose short stories have appeared in various national and international publications. He will be presenting his first novel, Mar es la Tierra—The Sea is the Earth in which he has created a fictionalized universe where chaos reigns. In this post-apocalyptic world a man wanders the deserts with a flock of crows, children search for an oasis, and two women make a pact to die. Hector’s presentation will take place at Sala Quetzal, on January 11 at 5pm.

Steven and Cathi House, are both architects, and longtime residents of San Miguel. Their book, San Miguel de Allende: the Soul of Mexico, is a pictorial, loving, dedication to this city. The colorful, photography book showcases the city in its glory, and would make a great coffee-table book, as well as a great addition to anyone’s library. Steve and Cathi will present their new book on January 24, at Teatro Santa Ana, at 5pm.

Finally, I humbly include myself with the previously named authors. My book, The Tango House, is a memoir of my years in Buenos Aires as a tango dancer. It details the strange characters who came from all over the world to lodge in one particular house in Buenos Aires. They spend time learning and dancing tango, and interact with each other in unusual ways. The presentation will be on January 25, at 4pm at Teatro Santa Ana, and will include a tango show by a local couple—Lupita and Ezequiel, who teach and perform tango in San Miguel.

We invite you to join us at our book presentations and hope to see you at the Biblioteca!
